Fantasy football isn’t just about drafting a strong team—it’s about setting yourself up for success when it matters most: the playoffs. Weeks 14–17 are the only weeks that truly determine a champion, and the best managers start preparing months in advance.
One key strategy is analyzing fantasy playoff schedules. If your star running back faces three top-5 run defenses in December, he may not be as valuable as a less-hyped back with an easier path. Savvy managers look ahead and stash players who have favorable late-season matchups, even if their early-season stats aren’t eye-popping.
Stacking is another playoff-winning strategy. Pairing a quarterback with one of his top weapons can maximize upside. In playoff weeks, when every point matters, having both the passer and his WR/TE cash in on a big game can be a game-changer.
Depth is also crucial. By December, injuries and fatigue take their toll, and the teams that hold reliable handcuffs or versatile bench players often survive while others falter. For example, rostering a backup RB who would become a starter in case of injury can make the difference between elimination and advancing.
Finally, don’t forget to monitor waiver wire opportunities late in the year. Many championship teams are built on late-season breakout stars who weren’t even drafted.
Rule of thumb: Draft smart, but always think about December. The trophy goes to the managers who prepare for the endgame, not just the first half of the season.
